When a journalist casually asked Donald Trump about his Valentine’s Day plans with his wife Melania Trump, the reaction that followed was unexpectedly awkward. Trump and Melania first met at a party in 1998, later started dating, married in 2005, and welcomed their son Barron the next year, so many would assume they’d share a few Valentine’s Days together.

It’s typical for Trump to answer questions aboard Air Force One about serious topics like global conflicts, but this time a reporter threw in an easy, light-hearted question: “Did you have any Valentine’s Day plans with her?”At first, Trump seemed to misunderstand the question and mentioned the First Lady’s movie, but when the reporter repeated the Valentine’s Day query, he looked genuinely unsure how to respond.

“Did I what?” he asked, and when pressed with “Did you do anything for Valentine’s with her? Did you give her flowers?”, he froze, gave an awkward look and ultimately said, “Better not tell you that. Goodbye, everybody,” laughing as he called it “the toughest question.”

His answer left the details of their Valentine’s Day celebration — and any gift he might have given her — unclear.

Instead, Trump took the chance to applaud her film’s success and her work helping children affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, saying she works hard and could be remembered as a great first lady.

Meanwhile, Melania’s movie hasn’t won over critics, earning low scores, though at its premiere she said she’s proud of the project regardless of opinion.

On Valentine’s Day itself, the couple attended a dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where Trump was seen dancing alone to a live band.
