My Wife Blamed Me For Having Five Sons Until Our Daughter Was Born

The morning my wife disappeared with our twelve-day-old daughter, I stood in our kitchen in yesterday’s clothes and tried to remember the last time I had actually understood what was happening inside our marriage.

I couldn’t.

That was the part that scared me most. Not the empty bed. Not the bassinet with the blanket still shaped from where Lily had slept. Not even the hollow sound of five boys starting to wake up upstairs, footsteps and voices and the creak of the hallway floorboards that always announced the morning before anyone said a word.
