I Sold My Late Husband’s Old Sofa—Then the Buyer Discovered Something Hidden Inside

PART 1: THE COUCH I WANTED GONE
For twenty years, I begged my husband, Arthur, to replace our old brown corduroy couch. Its cushions sagged so badly that anyone sitting in the middle practically disappeared, and I’d repaired the torn armrest several times with mismatched fabric.

We purchased it in 2005 from a furniture store in Dayton, Ohio, that closed the following year. I considered that an unfortunate sign, but Arthur seemed determined to keep the couch regardless of how uncomfortable or unattractive it became.
