I said: how often does she manufacture situations that require you to prioritize her over everyone else?<\/p>\n
He was quiet for a long time.<\/p>\n
He said: it\u2019s complicated.<\/p>\n
I said: yes. I\u2019m beginning to understand how complicated.<\/p>\n
Part 5 \u2014 What I Decided<\/p>\n
I went to Patricia\u2019s office that afternoon.<\/p>\n
James knew I was going.<\/p>\n

I looked at my husband.<\/p>\n
He was telling the truth.<\/p>\n
I could see it in the specific quality of someone who has stopped managing and started saying the actual thing.<\/p>\n
I said: James.<\/p>\n
He said: yes.<\/p>\n
I said: this cannot continue the way it has been.<\/p>\n
